NaviDKD: Instructions for Use

The following instructions are provided in each NaviDKD screening kit, detailing guidelines both for patients and for labs. These instructions ensure that patients are well-informed and prepared for the sampling process while equipping labs with the precise procedures for accurate sample collection and shipping. For your convenience, a downloadable PDF version is also available.

Patient Instructions

Freeze: As soon as you receive your screening kit, remove the cold pack and place it in the freezer.

Schedule: Your blood draw must be on a weekday between Mon-Thurs. No Friday appointments.

Fast: Do not eat or drink anything (except water) for 8 hours before your appointment. 

Prepare: Place the fully frozen cold pack back into the kit right before your appointment.
Give the entire kit, including these instructions, to the lab or technician at your blood draw.

Relax: Once your blood draw is complete, you're all set! The lab will handle the rest, and we'll contact you with results soon.

Laboratory Instructions

Collection:

• Use the provided 3 mL lavender top EDTA tube for blood sample.
• Label the vial with collection date, time, patient's first name, last name, and birthdate.
• Immediately after collection, mix blood by inversion three times. 
• Refrigerate the sample until shipment, do not freeze. 

shipping:

• Place the blood sample inside the biohazard bag and seal. 
• Place bag in styrofoam tray. Put frozen cold pack on top, then the lid.
• Insert the styrofoam box in FedEx envelope and seal.
• Ship samples Mon–Thurs within 24 hrs of collection. Do not ship samples on Fridays.
